At the last event I presented at, someone asked, “Facebook has a much younger audience than Twitter, though, doesn’t it?” Well, the answer is, yes – but not that significantly.
The really big difference, as things stand, is that the number of Facebook users vastly outweighs the number of Twitter users. That has to make Facebook much more worth the investment of time for a time and resourced pushed charity that has no option but to choose between using one or the other, right?
When I present on social media, I normally show a couple of slides to illustrate how similar the two audience demographics are, broadly speaking, that is (see slides 32 and 33 of this presentation). And demographics are usually just that – broad.
However, I came across the following infographic by digitalsurgeons that I wanted to share, since it gives us those demographics side by side with a little more insight into the differences between the way the two platforms are used – and that starts to get more interesting.
There’s a lot more to say about the differences between the two platforms and the way they’re used, but I’ll explore this further in subsequent posts...
