Jess I think that’s an excellent point. I would like to think those who by nature give to good causes anyway will always give generously. I would think that those who give via micro-donations are those who might not usually give to charity so it is all in addition. Also those who might give a few pennies might be more likely to give a little on a regular basis. Maybe it’s a good introduction to giving to a good cause?
This of course is speculation, I would love to see some research done on it!

Enjoyable article. I found the research on the donation boxes very interesting. Plonk! is a great idea for donating small change when the thought of stumping up large amounts seems to off putting for some.
This is the first time I’ve heard of Raffle.it too, it’s a fun way of encouraging donations. Kudos!
